In seguito ad una breve disanima verrebbe da dire che Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater, Avenged Sevenfold, OSI, BPMD), Neal Morse (Spock’s Beard, Transatlantic, Flying Colours) e il suo fedele bassista Randy George non abbiano nulla da fare e amino chiaccherare su skype e registrare qualche cover mentre sorseggiano le loro bevute in piscina, vedendo qualche bel culo che passa loro accanto. Magari non sarà proprio così ma è palese che ‘Cover To Cover Anthology (Vol. 1-3), impreziosito dalla magnifica copertina a cura di Thomas Ewerhard, sia un prodotto pensato e confezionato solo per i fan più intransigenti ovvero quelli che vogliono tutto dei loro artisti preferiti. L’occasione è quella di ascoltare le versioni rimasterizzate dei primi due capitoli – in cui possiamo trovare rifacimenti interessanti come quelli di Joe Jackson, Cream, The Who, The Police e Neil Young - e godersi qualche cover nuova di zecca. Probabilmente non avevamo bisogno di un’altra reprise di ‘Life On Mars’ di David Bowie mentre sono molto intriganti le riletture di ‘Baker Street’ di Gerry Rafferty (cantautore scozzese un po’ maledetto che conoscono in pochi), ‘It Don’t Come Easy’ di Ringo Starr (tra le sue cose migliori come solista) e ‘One More Red Nightmare’ dei King Crimson (da ‘The Road To Red’ del ‘74).
